Snapshot of Ministries

Blessing Box:  Located on the corner of Bayside and Sunnyside, with plentiful foot traffic, we have a blessing box of food and devotions that anyone with need can collect from and anyone with surplus can stock.

Soup Ministry:  Every Third Tuesday a group of our members comes together to deliver soup to some of our "most experienced" church and community members.

Soup-er Chili Cook-Off:  Yearly Soup and Chili competition with Bake Table in January or February - a wonderful time to enjoy friendship, fellowship, and good food!

Angel Tree/Warming Tree/Food Pantry Collections:  Throughout the year we have different collection opportunities for area needs - pregnancy center, elementary school, food pantry, and more!.

History (in brief)

Cheriton began as an outgrowth of a Sunday school that was founded between community Baptists, Presbyterians, and Methodists.  The first building was erected in 1887, originally named Sunnyside (the name of the community at the time) but was renamed to Cheriton in 1927.

Cheriton's current building was built in 1920 after the old sanctuary became too small for its worshipping body.

Cheriton was on a two-point charge with Travis Chapel UMC in Oyster from 1908 until its closure in 2020.

As of 2021, Cheriton shares a three-point charge with Trinity and Capeville UMCs.
